What We Believe
Are You Ready to Start Your Journey of Faith?
What is Salvation?
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
Who is God?
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.
What is Baptism?
Baptism helps us to follow the command set by Jesus. It provides a public testimony of your willingness to identify yourself as a follower of Jesus. It is a powerful and memorable moment that will encourage all who witness it.
Does Baptism Save You?
No. We believe that the Bible teaches that baptism is an act of obedience that is done after a person accepts Jesus. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, it is the gift of God…not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
Take the next step of Obedience and be Baptized
The Bible clearly teaches that baptism is the first step of obedience after making a commitment to Christ. Baptism allows a believer to communicate to the world their heart-felt commitment to the Lord. People often have questions regarding baptism: Why should I be baptized? I’ve already been baptized, so do I have to do it again? Does it matter if someone is sprinkled or dunked?A great place to find out more about baptism and what scripture says about it by attending our membership session called First Class.
Our Baptism Sundays take place once a quarter, we will post the date of our next baptism services here on this page or our event calendar.
Bring a change of clothes, a dark shirt, shorts, towel, hair dryer, etc. with you the day of the service you wish to be baptized. At the begining of your designated service, we will provide directions on where to go and when to change for the baptism ceremony.
Our Core and Our Culture
Second Baytown Church is built upon the four pillars of worship, connect, serve, and invest, however, and those pillars are the DNA of the church that builds our culture into what it is. We believe that life change should be a normal way of life. As we dig into God’s Word and learn more characteristics of our Lord, we want to move our lives closer to Him and what He would have for us. This requires constant review of the things that we deem important.
Our beliefs are rooted in the Word of God. We are a Bible-based church and measure everything against what the scriptures teach on any subject. The Bible is the basis for all we say and do. Below you will find some topics with answers we have taken form the scriptures.
